Techniques and Services

Dr. Portillo uses a number of highly effective techniques to improve spinal biomechanics and reduce nervous system interference. His years of clinical experience and his communication with his patients help him determine which technique is best suited for a particular situation.

His primary adjusting techniques include:

Applied Kinesiology

Dr. Portillo relies on Applied Kinesiology (muscle testing) as a diagnostic tool. It’s as if he’s plugging into your central computer to assess your body’s systems and determine the best course of treatment for you. Testing the strength of specific muscles in your body helps Dr. Portillo identify structural, chemical and mental problems and monitor your results.

Diversified

Dr. Portillo’s preferred method of chiropractic adjustment is the Diversified method. After identifying which vertebrae have lost their normal motion or position, a specific manual thrust is applied to free up “stuck” spinal joints.

Musculoskeletal problems will typically improve after two to three adjustments. If muscle tension persists, there is most likely a digestive component, which will require further evaluation.

Activator Methods®

Some patients prefer low-force, instrument-assisted adjustments. For these patients, Dr. Portillo uses Activator Methods®.
